The 3rd and 4th grade students had a great time celebrating their Animal Can projects! Thank you to all those parents who came to experience our adventure. Using iron shavings and bar magnets,we discovered magnetic fields are strongest at the poles. Many students took pictures and videos on their iPads. Ask them to share them with you. Today we hosted the elementary principals in our classroom for our math lesson. We learned about prime and composite numbers through creating arrays and identifying the factors. The students loved using the fruit loops to discover the factors. Today the students recreated the phases of the moon using Oreo cookies. Students used the Oreo cookies to show how the moon passes through different phases growing from New Moon to Crescent to Half Moon and so on. By scraping off the icing, students were able to create what the moon looks in each of the stages. Afterwards, the students were able to enjoy the delicious "Moon Cookies."
A special thank you to all the parents who donated Oreo Cookies for this learning activity! I am truly appreciative... and I know the students are as well!!! Welcome back to an exciting year of learning! It was so nice to see the students smiling faces! It is hard to believe we are half way through 4th grade, and only a few months till 5th grade! My how time flies!
This week, we returned to Module 3 in Math, which is multiplication. The students are learning to recognize patterns of 10, 100 and 1,000 when multiplying. In Science, we are continuing our study of Objects in Outer Space. This week our focus is the Moon. In Reading, we will be finishing Unit 3, with the last reading selection and then the Unit Test on Friday. Hope your New Year is off to a great start! The Upper Elementary students had a blast spending their Mini-Society money. The students sold and shopped for items throughout the classrooms. Check out the photos of the wonderfully, crafted items and games.
