Today was hot, hot, hot! Despite the heat, the students worked very hard this morning. In math, we introduced a new way of "bundling" ones, tens, and hundreds. After several practice problems, students were understanding the concept. We will continue with more Place Value and multiplication of 10s on Monday. In Reading, we discussed the Elements of a Story, specifically characters and setting, and previewed our literature story for next week "The Lost Lake" by Allen Say. I also started reading aloud the New York Times Bestselling novel, Wonder by R.J. Palacio. After reading only a few chapters, many of the students were hooked! For social studies, students took a short pretest on a the 4 different types of social scientists and then defined and illustrated two of them. It was quite a busy day despite the heat.
Please be sure to continue sending in the classroom supplies, as well as headphones or earbuds for eSpark. Finally, if possible, help your child to download the following free apps from the App Store: Vocabulary Spelling City and Socrative (the student version). We will be using these apps in the upcoming weeks to practice spelling and take quick (ungraded) quizzes to see how the students are understanding new material.
Thank you again for all your support!
